…And We Thought it was Wavy Before…

Kelly’s last video message showed some ocean waves being kicked up by a faraway storm across the Pacific. The cliffs in our backyard loom about 30 feet over the ocean and our yurt is easily 150-200 feet away from the edge of the cliffs, so even if there is a tsunami or critically substantial waves we would be largely untouched.

So we enjoy seeing the ocean unleash its powerful ferocity on us on occasion, and sometimes will set chairs up outside and watch the thundering waves, feeling the light salt spray on our faces. It’s like watching a movie, except better!

The last few days have seen surf warnings (with 30 foot swells) for the north and east shores of the Big Island, which puts us in a perfect place for one heck of a movie. When the waves crash on the cliffs, the glass sliding door on our yurt shakes, and we feel the ground under our feet rumble. It sounds like thunder, and if the wind is going in the right direction the salt spray feels like rain.
