Bangkok: The Capital of Gridlock?

By theprofessionalhobo ~ April 20th, 2008. Filed under: Hawaii, Thailand.

I just found this article online, which hails Bangkok as the worst city in the world for traffic. So bad, in fact, that the police are trained in childbirth techniques, as hundreds of women are relegated to delivering their progeny…in the midst of traffic jams.

I remember (and not exactly fondly) of those numerous soul-sucking days, stuck in Toronto traffic. Calling clients from the car apologizing that I would be 10 minutes late. Then calling 10 minutes later having moved mere inches, apologizing that I might be closer to half an hour late. Then calling 20 minutes later to simply reschedule because I’ll never arrive.

Wasting hours upon hours upon days in traffic.

And apparently, all that was child’s play in comparison to what Bangkok has to offer! Excellent.

All I can do is thank my lucky stars that we don’t have to commute anywhere in a hurry during our upcoming visit to Thailand.

Yeah, traffic is pretty bad…luckily, scooters work on sidewalks too, as I learned from the Thais. :)

I know some good spots around BKK and elsewhere if you want some trip planning goodies. Also, Ive got Thailand tips on my site here:

Best of luck on your trip!
