Recipes From The Road: Bread Pudding to Die For

By theprofessionalhobo ~ April 6th, 2008. Filed under: Hawaii.

This recipe wasn’t exactly born from our travels, but has certainly accompanied us and paved the way for many friendships! Think of it as “French toast on crack”.

7 eggs

2 ½ cups milk

1 ½ tsp vanilla

1 loaf (625grams) of bread, but into 1inch cubes. (I have used both French bread, which creates a light fluffy pudding, and heavy crusty bread, which really adds some girth to it. Both are good; it depends on what you want).

2 tbsp raisins

½ cup butter (melted)

¾ cup brown sugar

3 tbsp maple syrup

1) Mix the eggs, milk, vanilla in a large bowl.

2) Add bread and raisins, combine well. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

3) Place mixture in a buttered 9×13 baking dish.

4) Mix butter, sugar, and syrup. Drizzle it on top.

5) Bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes, until puffed & brown & you can’t stand the smell any longer.
