How to Travel the World for Free, or Almost-Free Anyway

By theprofessionalhobo ~ May 20th, 2009. Filed under: Australia, links.

In the wake of being a freshly published author, I was recently given an excellent opportunity to write a guest post for the bestselling author of I Will Teach You To Be Rich, Ramit Sethi.

Things got even more interesting, when another bestselling author, Tim Ferriss of The 4-Hour Workweek read and promoted the article himself!

Almost famous, I am. Almost.

If you haven’t seen it already, please check out the article here:

You need to give Ramit a big hug…. it was through that guest post that I found you AND bought your book. I even remembered to get it using the Amazon link on your website. (Despite being an Amazon seller who could have gone through MY account!! LOL) Now quit being so lazy and write more inspiring articles that will help me motivate my daughter to leave the backwards town she’s hiding in and see the world!!
Just teasing you Nora but I really wouldn’t be upset if we could get her out of there.

Big hugs all around! I’m in. I’ll keep trying to write inspiring pieces….yikes – a tall order, but I’m happy to attempt to rise to the challenge. On the 15th and last day of each month, I tend to publish a round-up of articles I’ve written around the web (and print world), so hopefully between what is written here and elsewhere, I can impart some words of wisdom to you and your daughter both! Cheers…

      Nora,
That is a terrific article. Made me want to stop working THIS MINUTE and head off! Reckon we can rent our house (owned) out for $15k plus and travel full time picking up a bit of work here and there. Wow, I am blown away -(have son in final year of school – only 7 mths to go and no school fees.
Both our daughters have Woofed and had a ball.
Congrats on the extra year here, well deserved I reckon, you really helped out during that time (I know you did not do it for the visa but one good turn deserves another!)
Boy you are on a roll at the moment, congratulations
      Frank
p.s. being sexist here, but boy, you DO have a great set of legs!!….(sorry)

I really enjoyed that article. In fact, that is how I found you! Can’t say I am as grateful as Steve – I didn’t buy your book – but I did subcribe to your blog. I look forward to reading more of your work! :)

@Frank – Ha Ha! Yes, the picture(s) you are probably referring to are my Hawaii legs. Now into my 2nd Aussie winter, I’m not so sure I’m that tanned any more….I haven’t even seen my legs in ages!
Seriously though – get out there! Do it! With your passive income from the house, you could travel quite well. And if/when I’m back in Canada, I’ll be happy to host you.

@Mary – Ha Ha – no worries for not ordering the book (although I’ll admit that I’m loving the tips I’m getting from other authors)…and thanks for subscribing!

Excellent post Nora! I’m just setting off on a 4-month trip around South America, with some savings in my pocket that I was hoping could sustain my travels, but your tips just assured me I have more than enough. Brilliant one Nora, I sure will spread the word on your book.

Another great article, Nora. Keep up the good work. My departure may have been delayed by a year, but your writing keeps me motivated to set out someday soon!

    9. theprofessionalhobo

@Aaron – Sorry your trip has been delayed. Boo! But keep reading inspirational travelogues, and keep planning, and you’ll keep the fire alive.
