Our Backyard
By theprofessionalhobo ~ October 29th, 2009. Filed under: Australia, Video Clips.
Here’s a quick video that I put together to show those who are interested what our backyard looks like. We live in the rural countryside of Victoria, Australia, and are currently in the throes of spring. The trees are blooming, the grass is green, and the rain has been keeping everything lush and alive.
We regularly enjoy our meals sitting in the middle of the backyard next to the fire pit, enjoying the sun setting on the Blue Range mountains just behind us. Although they are largely burnt from the fires, not all the trees were killed, and life is taking hold yet again throughout the area.
We look forward to a hot and sunny summer this year; one that is noticeably bereft of smoke. Please enjoy this short video and slide show of Our Backyard:

Wow that is awesome!
I’ve traveled loads but Australia is definitely my favourite country in the world! Lived in Melbourne for a year too.
You’re so lucky

Nice one Nora, Isn’t it fantastic when the rains come and everything is green. We were at Cape Otway over the weekend and they have had stacks. On the big electrical storn Friday night they got 24mm of rain while in Geelong we got 6mm.
Just getting psyched to do a video blog post. Reckon it would be fun!
Cheers

I’ve come to really appreciate the green colours through winter and spring, given how brown everything tends to get in the summer! I was just at Cape Otway myself….stay tuned for pictures of koalas (I didn’t get audio of their mating growls, but will do my best to give them semantic justice!) and beautiful views. Hope your trip was great!

Where did you go?

I was doing a few nights along the Great Ocean Walk (between Blanket Bay and the cape lighthouse), as an assistant group leader for a school group from Melbourne. Which also explains why I didn’t stop in for a cuppa….I figured you wouldn’t appreciate my entourage at the time! (smiles)
But with a hedgehog that’s famous no less….you’re upping the ante, mate!

Cool! That is our backyard! That is the sort of gig Clare our daughter does. Just had 3 weeks up near Cairns.
Mmm, tried to trick you on the hedghog, was not sure if it had hit your vocab…
No dramas re visit, sometimes it feels like we cater for a bus load normally.
Do these look familiar?:

How beautiful! I love the view of the mountains. It looks so tranquil. And how wonderful that you can enjoy the countryside but still be connected to the modern world via internet! I haven’t made it to Australia yet, but I’m dying to…

@Emily – I must say now that we’ve had a chance to live rurally (a few times), an urban lifestyle holds very little appeal for us. It’s worth some of the inconveniences of living in the country to have this piece of nature-filled paradise.

nice backyard…
really love to do a sight-seeing there..
i really appreciate the beauty of rural areas because they remind me of the beauty of nature..

Thanks! You know, I feel strange sometimes about having friends or hospitality exchangers visit from overseas because I’m not near many “touristy” things. But it truly is a little piece of paradise…once you slow down enough to enjoy what it has to offer. And the truth is, the area where we are is where weekenders from Melbourne like to come when they have time off. So I guess I kind of AM on the tourist circuit!

Nora, I’ve been catching up on your posts, and just now watched this video. It made me “homesick”! While I’m an American, I lived in Victoria years ago, and have been back a few times. Had planned to return in Feb 2010, but due to some issues that’s been pushed off ’til later in the year. I’m so glad you posted this video, put a smile on my face — could remember the sounds and smells almost as if I were there again now.

@Deb – You know, I’ve recently wondered if the scenery around here is standard rural country fare, but you’ve reminded me that it is truly Aussie. The sounds alone peg it! Cheers.
